Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, (Dragon Ball Kai) and now Dragon Ball Super. The series has been running for over 30 years and is still going strong. Akira Toriyama’s iconic work still resonates with me today.
Possibly one of the first series I seriously started collecting. I have many figures of Dragon Ball acquired through my teen years. Possibly too many!
I don’t even know what it was about the series that attracted me. Maybe because it was one of the first anime I had seen that wasn’t so… childish? (Back then the anime on my TV were mainly Alfred Joducus Kwak, Barbapapa, Heidi, Maple Story, Honeybee Hutch and Pokémon). Maybe because the main characters actually grew up (which seemed rare back then)? Maybe because it had this funny humour Akira Toriyama is known for?
I don’t know what it was, but it made me fall in love with anime. And everything Akira Toriyama did for that matter. Dragon Quest, Dr. Slump, Sandland, Blue Dragon… I especially love his Dragon / Dinosaur and vehicle images!
