I love Gashapon; the little random capsule toys are always a nice surprise to find and collect. Although as a kid these were mostly slimy sticky hands and bouncy balls, nowadays you can find the high quality Japanese ones in a lot of places.
Launched in 1977, Gashapon is a capsule toy that offers a broad variety of high-quality toys ranging from anime figurines, food miniatures, realistic animal replicas, stationeries, accessories, and more all for an affordable price. They are sold through vending machines, which adds a fun element of surprise as you’ll never know what you’ll receive until you’ve spun the vending machine handle.
The name “Gashapon” is formed by two Japanese onomatopoeias. “Gasha” is the sound for turning the vending machine handle, and “Pon” is the sound of the capsule landing in the tray.
I love miniatures and the Japanese Gashapon are full of high quality ones. Although they should be a cheap little find, they are getting more and more expensive nowadays.
Gasha… pon!
As I seem to be getting lots of them, I’ve compiled a list of Gashapon series in my collection, including a link to the post of it. This will be updated regularly.
