Ty Attic Treasures

Headshot of Ty Attic Treasure Logan

Set: Attic Treasures

Company: Ty

Release: 1993~2003 (original line)

Main Distribution: Worldwide

The Attic Treasures line was introduced in 1993 with an initial release of 12 animals. Since then it has grown and there are about 240 different ones (from that original line, new re-releases and series have come out since also bearing the name Attic Treasures).

The original Attic Treasures were made with textured fur. Most of them had move-able heads, arms and legs. Many also had clothing and/or accessories that ranged from a simple ribbon to sweaters, vests, jackets and even full outfits (including hats). The original Attic Treasure line was retired by the end of January, 2003. However, in March, 2017, new Attic Treasures were introduced. These do not have jointed / move-able heads, arms or legs.

As there are so many, here I will list only the ones I have / had.

This is Logan from the Ty Attic Treasures line. Logan was a Canada exclusive plush and is now retired.

Logan is from 2000 and has a textured fur and move-able head and limbs. Although made from polyester fibers, the fur has that vintage look to it and reminds me of mohair. He has a light colour, almost a pastel blond. His nose and mouth are embroidered and he has 2 hard plastic black eyes. He has black embroidered lines on his hands and feet.

Logan wears a denim jacket that has the Canadian flag embroidered on the back. He was a Canada exclusive plush. There are 4 others similar in style with the same denim jacket, but they have their respective flag on the back to depict their exclusivity. These are Tudor (UK),  Kyoto (JPN), Rhine (DE) and McKinley (USA).

The Swing Tag (hang tag) is a 7th generation swing tag, which has large, rounded letters for Ty. Sadly, mine is sun damaged and faded to a soft pink. The inside and back have stickers on them due to him being imported to Europe and needing the CE mark. Inside you can find his name, Logan, and his quote “Out And About…Eh ! “.

Its Tush Tag is located on his bum, under his jacket. It has the standard Ty tush tag, that says The Attic Treasures Collection, as well as the year and the usual mandatory information. The tag is white with red text. The second, much larger tush tag has the usual information of what it is made of and where and cleaning instructions.

I was never a big fan of Ty plush. They always came across as cheap to me, and I always find them in the cheaper stores. I also never cared for the Beanie Babies, no matter how “popular” or “valuable” these so-called are. Beanie Boos I find even worse, with their giant ugly eyes. To be honest, I had never even heard of the Attic Treasures line.

Ty wasn’t really a big thing in the Netherlands I believe. I often saw them in Germany, and in the UK though. I find loads of them in charity shops. Never anything exciting in my opinion, and whenever I look one up for value, they tend to be low.

My first Ty plush was a keychain from Snoopy. It was Woodstock, and I had him on my bag. Sadly he died from use. I didn’t mind that much, after all, it was a “cheap Ty”. My second one was a Ty Pikachu, an UK exclusive given to me by my boyfriend. I returned the favour by giving him the Ty Axew. Pokémon plush aside, I got nothing with Ty.

Until I found Logan in a charity shop here in the UK. At first, he looked like a cute vintage bear with a denim jacket. I then found out he was a Ty. I never knew Ty made bears like this! I only knew the beanies! He looked cute like an old mohair bear, so I bought him and grew attached to him.

I’m still surprised I found the Canada exclusive here (although he has been imported to Europe) and I hope to find the UK one too, if not the full set.

His old style look is cute, and I love his light colour. The jointed limbs adds to that classic character and makes him pose-able. I am now keeping a closer eye to Ty plush in charity shops.

I found a few more Attic Treasures in charity shops and bought them, but quickly fell out of love with them. They aren’t as cute as Logan is, although I do have a soft spot for light brown mohair (looking) bears. Cody is sweet and unique looking, but I can’t just keep them all. Franny is a similar built as Logan, but I don’t like her dress. So I’ve sold Cody and Franny, to a lovely local collector. There’s nothing wrong with them, just personal preference.

General Ty collectors would probably like these, but Ty Attic Collectors probably even more so. But even teddy bear collectors would probably like to add the bears in their home.
If you want something more valuable however, or a proper classic teddy, you probably avoid these.

Got any more details / information you think I should add? Or did I get something wrong? Do you own the same plush or other Ty Attic Treasures? Do you agree or disagree with my findings? Let me know in the comments below!
