Pokémon Flocking Doll – Sekiguchi

Pokémon Flocking Doll by Sekiguchi

Company: Sekiguchi

Release: January, 2018

Size: 12~13.5cm

Main distribution: Japan

These are fuzzy Flocking Doll figures made by Sekiguchi from the first starters; Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Pikachu. Sekiguchi is mostly known for the Monchhichi dolls, but has recently started dabbling in Pokémon plush and figures as well.

4 Flocking Dolls have been made from the Pokémon Gen 1 starters; Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Pikachu. They are quite big and nice figures, with flocking (soft fuzzy material on plastic, like on Sylvanian Families).

I got 2/4; Squirtle and Pikachu.

Squirtle

The packaging is quite nice in its simplicity. It can easily be opened and closed due to 2 push “buttons” at the top, meaning you could repackage your figure should you so wish.

Pokémon Flocking Doll by Sekiguchi Squirtle packaging side

The entire packaging is a triangular piece of transparant plastic, with a mold for the figure in the center. This means the figure can be seen from all angles.

Pokémon Flocking Doll by Sekiguchi Squirtle packaging back

Inside is a piece of cardboard in the colour of the Pokémon, so blue for Squirtle. It has the legal information on the back, and the name of the figure and Pokéballs on the front.

The figure itself is quite nice, and flocked all over. The colours are quite light, possibly due the nature of the flocking. The eyes are the only things not flocked.
Squirtle stands neutral with his arms spread wide. He has a neutral expression on his face, with a closed mouth.

He stands stable due to his wide stance. At 12cm tall, he is decent size figure that stands out.

The figure isn’t articulated and mainly for display purposes.

I first saw these on HLJ early 2018 and immediately fell in love with them. I like flocked figures, despite the dust magnets that they are. But they were very expensive in my opinion. So I figured I’d never get them. I also couldn’t choose, I’d like them all and I think they would look nice displayed on a row, which would make it all even more expensive.

Months later, around Christmas time 2018, we’re shopping in Manchester for Christmas presents for people and find these at Travelling Man. Not only were they the same price as on HLJ (which rarely happens but actually makes them cheaper due to import costs), they were now half price in some Christmas sale!

Although still expensive, the price made a lot more sense when I saw them in person. They were a lot bigger than I thought they were! I snapped up the two they still had, Pikachu and Squirtle. Basically I had 2 for the price of 1 now. As we always visit family and go to the shops in those areas after Christmas, we figured we’d find Bulbasaur and Charmander in their other branches up North. Sadly, none of them had Bulbasaur nor Charmander. And so I never got them.

For some reason they are now even more expensive to get! I don’t know why these have such a hefty price tag! I still hope I find the other 2 for a decent price in the future.

At least I got Pikachu and Squirtle. Pikachu is one of my favourite Pokémon, and as my boyfriend calls me his little turtle, Squirtle is high up on the favourite list too.

I know there are some vintage flocked Pokémon figures out there too, but they are quite rare and I don’t know how much they go for nowadays. It would be nice to have those too, or to compare them.

If you like flocked or big figures, these are very nice. However, they are quite pricey!
If you like something cheaper or smaller, you might want to skip these.

Got any more details / information? Did I get something wrong? Do you own the same figures? Let me know in the comments below!
