Company: Pokémon Center
Release: 2022+
Size: 13cm (not including tail)
Main distribution: Japan, USA, UK (at Pokémon Centers)
These little plushies are from the Comfy Cuddlers line from the Pokémon Center. They seem to be targeted for young trainers.
Each plush is made from terrycloth and apparently easy to clean. They can be hand washed and hung up on the line.
They are very similar to the old Kuta Kuta plush which were also made from terrycloth, or the newer Kuttari plush which had a similar flat, stackable design.
The plush when ordered online arrive in a plastic bag with their barcode on.
The Comfy Cuddlers released in waves. 3 waves have been released so far, making 19 plush so far.
I got 2/19.
Wave 1
Release date: September 2022 (US / UK)
Wave 1 exists out of Sobble, Pikachu, Popplio, Eevee, Piplup and Mew.
I got 1/6; Pikachu.
Pikachu
Pikachu has his iconic colours although slightly lighter than normal, yet not quite pastel. He has embroidered face features, with open eyes and a slight “3” mouth.
It’s in a flat, laying position. He has a stuffed head and a little bit of stuffing in its paws. The tail is flat. It’s body is filled with little pellets, but quite firmly stuffed, and he isn’t that floppy.
It has quite long and several tush tags at its back left paw, which have the standard Pokémon Center info on it with the Pokéball logo, Pokémon Center, year and the usual copyrights. Attached on a tiny loop underneath these is the tag, which is as big as the plush itself. It has a basic Pokéball design on the front, and the usual Pokémon Center info on the back, as well as the line of plush, the name of the plush and barcode. This is the UK version.
Wave 2
Release date: 3 December 2022 (JPN), February 2023 (US / UK)
Wave 2 exists out of Chikorita, Squirtle, Scorbunny, Snorlax, Pichu and Pachirisu.
I got 1/6; Squirtle.
Squirtle
Squirtle has his iconic colours and embroidered face features, with open eyes and a slightly determined look on his face.
It’s in a flat, laying position. He has a stuffed head and a little bit of stuffing in its paws. The tail is flat. It’s body is filled with little pellets, but quite firmly stuffed, and he isn’t that floppy.
Just like Pikachu from Wave 1, it has quite long and several tush tags just under his shield above his back left paw, which have the standard Pokémon Center info on it with the Pokéball logo, Pokémon Center, year and the usual copyrights. Attached on a tiny loop underneath these is a folded tag, which is as big as the plush itself. It is slightly smaller than Pikachu from Wave 1’s tag, but it has the same basic Pokéball design on the front. The usual Pokémon Center info is inside, and on the back is the line of plush, the name of the plush and barcode. This is the UK version.
Wave 3
Release date: 8 July 2023 (JPN)
Wave 3 exists out of Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Jirachi, Oshawott, Rockruff, Pawmi and Fidough.
I got 0/7.
When I saw these I instantly thought of the old Kuta Kuta plush. I use to have 2 Snubble of those, but I sold them (which I only slightly regret). They were so floppy and the material, terrycloth, like towels, feels nice to me. These also seem to be aimed at younger trainers (easy to clean, small) and toddler’s toys usually have a nice charm.
I got Pikachu for Christmas from my partner. I’m a bit disappointed he’s not floppier, but otherwise it’s a nice, cute plush. Not that cuddly I’d say, but perhaps this is because I’m not a small child. I’d consider getting all the Gen 1, but I think I rather collect the older Kuta Kuta again. But when I saw Squirtle in the second wave I needed him too. Tiny turtle is my pet name by my partner, and so cute little Squirtle always hold a special place in my heart. I bought him from my birthday money. I prefer him a little over Pikachu, as his stuffiness seem to fit with the shell more.
Overall I like these plush, but I wish they were a bit more floppier and cuddlier. I am lowkey tempted to get Eevee, Mew, Snorlax, Bulbasaur and Jigglypuff, but I’m also trying to collect less and minimise some stuff in the house. So I’m sticking with these 2 for now.
If you like the Kuta Kuta or Kuttari lines, you might also like this line. If you have a young trainer these would be good for them (0+ age rating).
If you want bigger or more accurate plush, you might give these a miss.
